Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk with sugar and yeast; let sit until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter and egg; stir in flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Roll out dough to half an inch thick, cut into donut shapes, and let rest on parchment.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown; drain on paper towels.
  6. For custard, whisk together heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
  7. Cool slightly before filling each donut with custard using a piping bag. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
